Audio Fatigue – How to Prevent It.

You know the feeling, you have been exposed to sound louder than everyday speech for a prolonged period, and your ears ache. Sometimes they may ring, or you may experience a whistling, especially after listening to a very loud movie or music for an extended time. This phenomenon is known as audio fatigue.

Audio or listener fatigue occurs after prolonged exposure to an auditory stimulus and is, in fact, temporary sensory hearing loss! Which can last 24-48 hours after exposure to excessive sound.

According to health experts Vaop Therapy, there are several steps you can take to recover from audio fatigue, including;

  1. Taking a nap. A short nap lasting just 15-20 minutes will improve your alertness and leave you feeling refreshed.
  2. Taking a walk.
  3. Aiming for quiet time.
  4. Trying relaxation exercises.

However, we suggest starting with the source. Consider upgrading the quality of the speakers you are listening to sound on. Highly Engineered acoustic experts such as Meridan Audio, Monitor Audio, and Waterfall Audio ensure that their speakers are designed so that listener fatigue is a thing of the past, allowing you to experience natural, life-like, fully immersive sound without the pain in the ear!

To illustrate this point, consider that the human ear is incredibly good at locating sounds. However, when a speaker is placed lower than desirable, below a screen. A person on the screen and their voice become detached, and the brain has to compensate for this.

Meridian Audio’s Image Elevation technology uses psychoacoustically informed filtering to convince the listener that sound from a loudspeaker placed below a screen in a Home Cinema room comes from the image on the screen. The brain no longer has to work super hard throughout the film, trying to convince the listener that what it hears emanates from the actors on screen, which can lead to audio fatigue. Instead, you can watch an entire film with a more convincing soundstage and experience all the immersive drama of a soundtrack with less risk of audio fatigue.

In addition, years of research by Meridian Audio have resulted in their Perfect Balance technology. This technology ensures that as the sound system’s volume varies, there is no perceived loss of low and high frequencies, and spectral balance is maintained at all volume levels. This ensures the listener experiences tonally balanced audio at all volume levels, a natural sound, and, you guessed it, less audio fatigue!

In conclusion, investing in quality, highly engineered speakers will elevate your listening and watching experience. However, perhaps more importantly, your ears with thank you for it.
